From the mountains of Eastern Guadalcanal
The Hidden People of the Solomon Islands
To see the Birao language preserved, encouraged, and taught
in the Church, the community, and the schools,
so all Birao people may fully understand the love of Christ
and all the good gifts He has to offer us.
Designing of an alphabet, grammar, literacy program, and plans for preservation of the language
So that all who know Birao can fully understand and read the Bible for themselves
Today's Birao language is in danger of being lost. We aim to write as much as we can, including stories, songs, instructions, histories, and more.
Allowing the Birao to embrace and encourage culture while also making culture and art more and more a part of church and school.
Finding them is only the first step. Bringing the gospel to these beautiful people can be challenging - not just because we are communicating so many new ideas in the language, but also because of how hard the churches are already working. Our hope is that by producing the Bible and other works in Birao, while supporting Birao literacy, many will find understanding their Creator easier, as well as seeing the differences are between culture and Christianity. We love to see these bright traditional people get excited about their language preservation and growing education!
